You can create excessive oil pressure, blow out gaskets and seals, and lots of other bad stuff too up to and including ruining your engine if you continue to run it like that. It will all depend on how much is in there. If the oil levels is too high, then the crank journals hit into it and splash it all over the place - usually out of the engine somewhere as well as causing bad vibrations in the engine.
