less than 20,000 miles ago had same problem. so much sludge that sump pickup is completely clogged, causing low pressure and lifter noise.
the sludge is black and i would say carbon-like about 1 inch deep.
is it possible that intake is leaking exhaust through egr port?2002 suburban extreme amount of sludge in oil pan ?
Exhaust blow-by past compression rings on the pistons is the most common problem.
Maybe you could change to Castrol 15-40 oil (conventional not synthetic)
Do you have over 200,000 miles on it?
