How do you remove the oil pan on a 1996 Ford Taurus?

Relieve fuel system pressure.


Disconnect battery ground cable, then remove oil dipstick.


Raise and support vehicle.


On models with low oil level sensor, remove retainer clip at sensor and disconnect sensor electrical connector.


Drain crankcase.


Remove starter motor, then disconnect Exhaust Gas Oxygen (EGO) sensor electrical connector.


Remove Y-pipe and catalytic converter assembly.


Remove lower engine/flywheel dust cover from converter/flywheel housing.


Remove oil pan to cylinder block and front cover attaching screws, then the oil pan and gasket.


Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:


Clean all sealing surfaces using metal surface cleaner part No. F4AZ-19A536-RA, or equivalent.


Apply 1/4 inch bead of suitable silicone sealer to junction of front and rear main bearing caps with cylinder block, prior to installing new gasket. Install pan within five minutes of sealant application.


Locate gasket to oil pan using a suitable gasket adhesive


Tighten oil pan bolts to 6-8 ft lb , then loosen one full turn and tighten again to 6-8 ft lb .


Tighten low oil sensor, if equipped, to 26-35 ft lb .How do you remove the oil pan on a 1996 Ford Taurus?
