How hard is to replace the Oil Pan on a 1990 GMC Suburban 1500 4x4?

I had someone tell me it required pulling the motor, is this true? Anyone have experience in doing this? Tips? How hard is to replace the Oil Pan on a 1990 GMC Suburban 1500 4x4?
This is a very hard, dirty, messy job. As a former auto mechanic i wouldn't do it unless absolutely necessary. If you haven't donethis type of work before dont even think about it.How hard is to replace the Oil Pan on a 1990 GMC Suburban 1500 4x4?
the motor mounts need to be undone (there's a single long bolt that runs through each mount) Then the engine needs a slight lift upwards at the front (you may have to take the fan shroud off if the fan blades hit it)... easiest lifted with a jack on the front balancer.... then there will be enough room for it to clear and slip out. (just don't overdo it with the jack and wreck your balancer, or worse yet, your crankshaft) It has roughly a dozen bolts on each side that have to be removed 3/8'; or 7/16'; socket required, can't remember which. it's not that intimidating if you're mechanical... if you're not, don't do it, hire it done
It's just as easy to remove the transmission and transfer case so you can get the pan out.
It is very hard and should be left to a professional. Even with that said Ive seen them struggle with this one. Good luck.
this is an easy repair. just remove the front dif and motor mount bolts. slightly raise up the engine and remove pan bolts
