Is it better to replace or try to weld a cracked oil pan on a 97 Vtec Civic?

I heard it is hard to seal everything up when replacing. Has anyone done this. I bought good RSV sealant. Is there a big chance that it will leak where the gasket is?Is it better to replace or try to weld a cracked oil pan on a 97 Vtec Civic?
If it were me I would just buy a new pan or get one at the junkyard, you will have as much invested trying to fix the old one and then still the posibility of it leaking again down the road. When you put the pan on just use enough sealant to hold the gasket in place and don't overtighten the bolts you can always tighten them a little more later if you see oil leaking. Is it better to replace or try to weld a cracked oil pan on a 97 Vtec Civic?
A ';good'; welder can handle this with no problem. You have to drill a hole at either end of the crack to keep it from spreading. Then you need to very carefully v notch the crack with a dremmel or other small easy to handle grinder. Then weld it shut. Keep in mind that the prpe work for welding is as important as the weld itself. As far as sealant,.............................les鈥?is more,.................I only ever used sealant in a VERY thin layer,.....usually kust to hold the gasket from sliding out of place,........................also,. DO NOT over tighten the bolts as it will squish the gasket and it will leak like crazy. Good Luck. Thank You, Rob in PA.
