no you don't have to,but try and not let anything fall down in to the oil pan on it,i usually remove those just so i can clean the oil pan out real good, but it can be done without removing it,it just takes a little longer that's all, other wise its a pretty strait forward job on a small block chevy, good luck.Do i have to remove the oil pan when i am going to replace the timing gasket?

If it has a rubber oil pan gasket, you can loosen the pan bolts and drop it down some. The timing cover has a lip on the inside that holds the front pan seal in place! But if you loosen the oil pan bolts, you should be able to re-install the timing cover without wrecking the seal and then having a oil leak! Take your time, it can be done!!
you don't have to; but your engine is not going to like the crud that falls into the oil pan, and shortly there after you will be rebuild the engine from the ground up.......
No that would be the bottom. Your timing belt replacement is considered top end work.
Good Luck...
its the best thing to do if you dont it will leak both gaskets need to be done at the same time
